BOAC Comet 781 Crash off Elba on January 10th 1954

I have just discovered your website and think you may be interested to know there is still at least one more letter from the BOAC Comet 781 crash off Elba on January 10th 1954!

My cousin was in Singapore and all her Xmas thankyou letters were on board – but the one addressed to my family was the only one to arrive to my knowledge. I was 12 at the time (70 next month!) and keen on stamp collecting so we put the letter in an envelope and fixed it in the front of my stamp album where it rests to this day. It has therefore been kept in the dark and flat for over 50 years. It is missing its own stamp but has one stuck to the back presumably from the letter which lay underneath it. It is over-stamped in red ‘Damaged by Seawater’. (This is all from memory as it is stored in a box under a spare bed!)

I would be interested to hear from you as I need to ensure this little bit of history is not binned by my family when I depart!
